5.4 Testing the platform
The platform shall be tested at two positions, in the centre and at a corner of the front edge (see Figure 7).
With the ladder positioned as in use, a test load F of 2600 N, uniformly distributed over an area of 100 mm x 100 mm shall be applied for the duration of one min.
Position 1:
The permanent deflection after removal of the test load shall not exceed 0,5 % of the clear width b1 (see EN 131-1) measured at the point of loading parallel to the rungs or steps.
Position 2:
No break or crack after removal of the test load.
Note 1:
The test punch (area 100 mm x 100 mm) shall be placed parallel to the outer edges of the platform. (no “rhombic” support of the inspection stamp)
Note 2:
Especially in the case of plastic steps, it must be checked whether, in addition to the two test points, there are other weak points in the steps / platform construction (if necessary via a different substructure / stiffeners than at the two test points).
If this is the case, further load tests are necessary at these points.
